Library Entrepreneurship

Library Entrepreneurship Grants recognize that librarians at all types of libraries may have a concept which they would like to try but for which they do not have adequate funds.  Many of these ideas, once developed, could be replicated or scaled to benefit other libraries in Ohio.  There is a need for Ohio librarians to experiment with and evaluate new and innovative service models.  The ability to develop and execute new alternatives must be available while maintaining current service and funding levels.  The Library Entrepreneurship Grant program will allow libraries to develop solutions to library issues from which all libraries can learn and benefit and if appropriate, replicate.

In order to be funded under this category, a library entrepreneurship project should:

1.       Meet the library users’ need(s) in a fresh way.

2.       Have the breadth to become a platform for related services.

3.       Increase the library’s value to its community.

4.       Offer an advantage over current services or processes.

One requirement of the grant is that applicants must be willing to share the results of the project statewide and work with designated State Library staff to determine if and how replication of the program, if applicable, might be achieved.
