 Teen Tech Week 2010

March 7 - 13

Learn Create Share @ your library

Teen Tech Week is a national initiative aimed at teens, librarians, educators, parents, and other concerned adults meant to encourage teens to take advantage of libraries' nonprint resources. The 2010 theme — Learn Create Share @ your library — fosters teen creativity and positions the library as a physical and virtual place for safe exploration of the many types of technology available at libraries, including DVDs, music, gaming, video production, online homework help, social networking, tech workshops, audiobooks and more.

Ohio Celebrated Teen Tech Week - March 8-14, 2009

Teen Tech Week in Ohio was an exciting opportunity to expand outreach and services to Teens. YALSA provided a vast array of ideas and resources for developing programs and promotional materials for Teen Tech Week.

YALSA and TEEN TECH WEEK

Teen Tech Week 2010 will take place March 7-13, 2010 with a theme of Learn Create Share @ your library.  Teen Tech Week is a national initiative sponsored by YALSA and is aimed at teens, their parents, educators, and other concerned adults. The purpose of the initiative is to ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technologies, especially those that are offered through libraries such as DVDs, databases, audiobooks, and videogames. Teen Tech Week encourages teens to use libraries' nonprint resources for education and recreation, and to recognize that librarians are qualified, trusted professionals in the field of information technology. Teen Tech Week began in 2007 and has a general theme of Get Connected @ your library.

Teen Tech Week 2009 was celebrated March 8-14, 2009, and had a theme of Press Play @ your library. The program was about connecting teens with different technologies, especially those available through the library. Teen Tech Week encouraged teens to recognize that librarians are qualified, trusted professionals in the field of information technology.

For more than 50 years, YALSA has been the world leader in selecting books, videos and audio books for teens. Teens in Ohio celebrated this event by using digital devices such as mp3 players, DVD players, gaming controllers and more. Press Play @ the library was interpreted broadly to make it work for local library programs. YALSA encouraged librarians and educators to be creative and take the theme in a direction that worked for them and their teens!
